Chukchi is an endangered Indigenous language of the Chukotko-Kamchatkan family spoken by approximately 3000 people in the far northeast of Russia.
Chukchi is an exonym and the speakers refer to their language as лыгъоравэтльэн йилыйил [ɬəɣʔorawetɬʔen jiɬəjiɬ].
I have been working with the community of speakers in Amguema (Chukotka AO) in collaboration with the language documentation project Chuklang since 2016. An important result of this collective work was the creation of the Amguema dialect multimedia corpus.
Now I am writing a dissertation about incorporation in the Amguema variety of Chukchi and the theoretical implications of the (un)attested patterns. This work would not be possible without the guidance of the Chukchi speakers, their patience, devotion, and interest in their native language and linguistics.
